Emberfall Saga

Emberfall Saga looks tiny from its store page and turns out to be a proper little role-playing game. You lead a party of four through hand-drawn regions, fighting in a clean turn-based system where positioning matters as much as your attack choice. Characters have distinct roles that mix nicely once you get a feel for them.

What won me over is the writing. The outcasts you recruit have actual personalities and bicker at camp between battles, and the slow rebuilding of the home town gives the grind a point. Every upgrade unlocks a new line of banter or a shop with better gear.

It respects your time too. Battles can be sped up, and there's a sensible auto-save. If you want a story-driven RPG you can play in chunks, this is a strong pick.
